In case anyone cares, here is a list of the first 206 stories of The One-Thousand and the date each was finished. Many of them have not been published. If I had more time, I'd link each published one to where you could go to read it. Alas, I've got a bit too much to do for that.

"All the Trees Will Scream" is available today!

My latest story, "All the Trees Will Scream" (story 195 of The One-Thousand) is out today in the Winter issue of Trollbreath Magazine. You will need a 3-month membership for $5 in order to read it, but you'll also get the rest of the issue and the warm feeling that you're supporting the arts! Oh, how I envy you!

200

Just sent story 200 out the door. It's called "PetsParts" and it was inspired by my time working at AutoZone and my last dog dying of an enlarged heart.

199

I finished story 199 yesterday while avoiding other work. It's called, "This Story Hates You." It's a bit meta.

198

Just finished story 198, "The Demolition Notice," and sent it out. It combines two things I've done before, modular men and the Estate, the city of twelve million people all descended from one guy.

197

Just finished and sent out story 197, "220 Salamander Avenue, Ten Stories Down." It's about a three people trying to work out their love triangle while on the clock and tripping on psychic manipulation. A good time will be had by all (except for those three)!

195 & 196

Damn, I need to post here more regularly. I completed story 195, "All the Trees Will Scream," two months ago. It's about a spy who goes undercover for centuries.

Story 196, "Asterion in Love," was done last week. It's a story that gives the Minotaur a happy ending (in more ways than one).

194

I sent out story 194 of The One-Thousand, which is "Hazel," an alternate world 1950's secret agent story involving aliens. It was inspired by a few listens to Portishead's album, Roseland NYC Live.

192 and 193

I just finished writing a ten-minute play, Cheeseburger with Wings, for this year's ICFA and I thought it would be story 192. Then I realized the last one I wrote, The Three Spaces of Eve, back in March of 2016, was never added to The One-Thousand. Maybe I figured because it wasn't for money, it didn't count. But I wrote other freebies early on and they counted. So, I'm counting both of them now. And rather than fuck up the numbers I've assigned to things in between, I'm calling Eve 192, and Cheeseburger 193. And that's all I'll hear about that.

190

Just completed and shipped out story 190, "The Orange Man," a science fantasy about an immigrant who's in over his head in a strange new city.

Between Worlds

Art by Jacey

Here's a story of mine from 2021 I forgot to tell you about the first time around. Sorry! It's a flash piece for Nature called "Between Worlds" (number 176 of The One-Thousand). Enjoy! https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02227-w

Story Sale!

Yesterday I sold my story, "That Feeling You're Feeling," to StarShipSofa! It's about a guy who takes snapshots of the emotions of people when they're at their absolute lowest, and he posts them for his subscribers. It's number 182 of The One-Thousand. I'll let you know when it's available and I'll post a link to the show.

184-189

Last month I banged out six pieces of flash fiction and here they are in order:

"The Hip of Theseus" - A guy replaces ALL of his body parts.

"Life is so Strange" - A woman foresees her life is about to come to a violent end.

"Time's Archipelago" - An old man travels to the past and might be stuck in his ten-year-old body.

"Life in the City" - A woman summons Life and uses it to do her bidding.

"My God, It's Full of Stars," - Stars keep appearing in the night sky at an alarming rate.

"A Break in the Action" - A couple find themselves in a lull in a real-life action movie.

183

Story 183 is out to seek its fortune. It's called "Clayground." It's a humorous (I hope) flash piece about a city that tries to save money by building a playground out of clay.

173

Just finished and submitted my 173rd story, "Three Princesses," a fantasy retelling of "The Three Princes of Serendip," told in a science fictional setting. That's my 940th submission.

171

Oops.I finished 171 a month ago. Instead of calling it, "A Sensitive Woman," I changed the title to, "Their Heads Filled to Bursting."

170

About a week and a half ago, I finished story 170, a flash fiction piece called, "You Will Find Yourself Buried Beneath Rubble." I wouldn't be surprised if I finish 171 soon, probably called, "A Sensitive Woman."

169

I just sent out story 169, "The Substitute Secret Agent." It's a meta meditation on American capitalism, loneliness, and responsibility. I think it's one of the best things I've ever done. As always, editors may disagree.

168 And A Sale

Just finished story number 168 last night, "Three Fates," and sent it off to an editor. If I can stick to my schedule, these numbers will be falling more rapidly than they have in years.

I sold story 165, "I Was Meant to Live Another Thousand Years," to Kaleidotrope last night. Don't look for it till 2021, though. Fred at Kaleidotrope published my story, "Three Kingdoms" (no relation to "Three Fates") in 2014. I'll let you know when it's available.
