I'm sorry I've been neglecting you again, faithful blog. The last two weeks have been tough. I have been getting some writing done though. Some quick points:
Dad's home at my brother's house. We're all going to be taking turns helping him through the day.
I finished a first draft of a story today. The working title is "Thank You, Mr. Goldman."
I haven't even begun to read stories for the next Fiction Crawler and it really should have been completed by now. Gads!
Got two hours of sleep last night, thanks to Monday morning and my crappy dog. Grrr.
I saw the documentary "Dreams with Sharp Teeth" the other night. Wonderful. I love Harlan Ellison. More details on that (the movie, not my love) another time.
That's it. Hope to talk to you all tomorrow!

Sorry, Bloggie
Sorry, Blog, I don't know why I've ignored you for the past week. I'll post short things and try to get back back to a daily routine.
I think that if Republican politicians keep pissing in their pants when they offend the far right loons in their party, they're going to wind up with two separate parties. There are a lot of sane Republicans who want no part of that crazy bullshit.

F&SF And The Sofa
I won the Fantasy and Science Fiction Competition for the second time in a row! Go buy a copy of their April/May issue if you'd like to read the winning entry. And subscribe if you can. If we don't support the mags we love, they'll go away and then we'll be sad. Let's be happy instead.
I added links to the blog for the Fiction Crawlers. You can find them over on the left sidebar under the heading "Read (or listen to) My Stuff," formerly known as "Read My Stories."
And speaking of the Sofa, let's jump on and make the springs go *twangy!*

Classin' This Dump Up
I had the weekend from Heck. It gave weekends a bad name.
Welcome, Grant! Those followers are really rolling in now. To show Grant what a classy joint we run here at The One-Thousand, I present the following:
UPDATE: Damn it! NBC must have come down on youtube. Most versions are gone and embedding on this one is disabled. For some reason, I can still link to it. Well, we'll see how long the link lasts:

Follow The Blog
Check out the new little clicky over to the left and follow this blog. Do it fast so I don't feel like that pathetic kid, all alone at his own birthday party.
And thank you.
And thank you.

I'm All Twittered Up
Look to the left and slightly down. No, I mean on the screen. You'll see my Twitter updates. I swore I wouldn't do Twitter, that it was a dumb waste of time and I already spend way too much time online when I should be writing.
But I did it.
How long before I break down and type the words "masturbating furiously?"

Thank You For Not Hitting Me With A Bus
I made it! Loyal readers of The One-Thousand may recall that one year ago I wrote a fearful post on the occasion of my Thirty-Eighth birthday, begging one and all not to hit me with a bus. When I was a teenager my friends and I had a weird running joke that I would die at Thirty-Eight years of age. And the cause of death? Being hit by a bus. I don't believe in the supernatural, but I do believe in the freaky power of the human mind and I was always concerned that my Id might get a kick out of throwing itself and the rest of me in front of a bus just for the thrill of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Well, here's to you Super-Ego, for keeping that bastard Id in check once more. Now that I'm past that hurdle, I'll never have to worry about dying again!
Oh, yeah, and Happy Birthday to me.

Thank You, Mysterious Stranger
Thank you to Anonymous, who pointed out that the link for my story, Better Than Anything, was effed up. Fixed it. I got a mention on SFSignal last night which is always swell. If you're coming here blind, may I recommend my story, Fluff and Buttons on the Teddy Bear Range? It's one of my favorites. Hit its clicky over to the left under Read My Stories. Enjoy!

Ooooo, Pretty!
I did a bit of renovation on this old dump, as you can see. I also added links to my published stories over to your left (and down). Most of them are freebies, but there are a couple in mags that have to be purchased if you so choose. Next to the titles are the mags in which the stories were published.

Like It?
Like It?
Hey, everybody, I appreciate you stopping by and hope you enjoy at least some of what you see here. Of course, everything here is free for your pleasure. The best payment you could give me is to spread the word, tell your friends and neighbors who aren't easily offended and subscribe to the blog. It would make me as happy as a freshly squeezed dog.

From the Top
Who I am: My name is Matthew Sanborn Smith. I’m thirty-six years old and I intend to become (In the voice of Mr. Haney) a gen-u-ine bona-fide full-time pro-fessional science fiction writer before I’m dead.
What the blog’s about: Inspired by Julie Powell of Julie and Julia fame I decided that I wanted to write 1000 stories by the time I’m fifty. Sounds possible? Here’s the thing. I’ve been at this for fourteen and a half years now and I’ve got a grand total of forty-four stories completed.
I’ve got some work ahead of me.
